Julia Galef
Julia Galef (nacida el 4 de julio de 1983) es una autora y podcaster estadounidense. Es cofundadora y expresidente del Center for Applied Rationality, presentadora del pódcast Rationally Speaking y autora de La mentalidad del explorador.
Antecedentes
Galef estudió Estadística en la Universidad de Columbia. Tras completar sus estudios, trabajó como periodista independiente para varias publicaciones.1 En 2012, cofundó el Center for Applied Rationality,a y fue presidenta de esa organización hasta 2016.2
Rationally Speaking
En 2010, Galef y su copresentador Massimo Pigliucci lanzaron Rationally Speaking, un pódcast sobre racionalidad, escepticismo y otros temas. En 2015, Pigliucci se marchó y Galef se convirtió en la única presentadora y productora del pódcast.3

La mentalidad del explorador
En 2021, Galef publicó su primer libro, The Scout Mindset: Por qué algunas personas ven las cosas con claridad y otras no .
El título del libro hace referencia a un rasgo, común entre las personas con buen juicio, que Galef define como “la motivación para ver las cosas como son, no como uno desearía que fueran.”15 Galef contrasta esta mentalidad del explorador con una * mentalidad del soldado*. A diferencia de los exploradores, que buscan evidencia que mejore la exactitud de sus creencias y tratan el error como una oportunidad para revisar sus modelos del mundo, los soldados buscan evidencia que confirme sus creencias y tratan el error como una derrota humillante.16
La mentalidad del explorador ha recibido elogios de Philip Tetlock,17 Scott Alexander,18 y Dylan Matthews,19 entre otros.
La organización 80 000 Horas ha citado a Galef como ejemplo de una carrera profesional de gran éxito en defensa de la mejora de la toma de decisiones institucionales.20
